Claude Monet – “Autumn at Argenteuil”
In Monet’s painting it is possible to see that the sharper tones of light reflecting of the surface of the water. This is due to the fact that Monet has used diffused reflection, otherwise known as the Frannel effect. The colours used in the image are gold complimentary, and help to make the other colours on the cover as vivid as possible.

In this image there are examples of the Frannel effect, along the surface of the water. Especially where her tail enters the water.
We can see numerous use of subsurface scattering across her skin, tail and red hair. Riegel has brought focus to the mermaid by using complementing warm oranges and reds and cool green and blue background.
