Compisition

George Miller – Mad Max: Fury Road
This frame from the film adheres to the compositional “L” rule. The car is the rectangular space round which the “L” is situated. As well as this the focal point of the shot, Max and his car, dominate the shot but remain separate without kissing.

Naughty Dog (Neil Druckmann) – The Last of Us

Rule of Thirds
As you can see Ellie’s face is presented in the left section of the frame, while Joel’s face and chest corresponds directly to the right vertical intersection. The reflection in the window and the light spilling through inside the vehicle adhere directly across the middle section of the shot. At the same time the two outer sections, above and below, are much darker. In this rule a compositionally important place is centred on Joel’s frown, perhaps showing the discordance between Ellie’s look of wonder.
